When I started Hedgehog Pie in 1995 I could only have dreamt of how successful it would be. I quickly built up a strong and loyal clientele based on personal recommendations and ‘by word of mouth’. In those early days being ex directory caused intrigue and a sense of mystery. Clients were always friends of previous clients or had been at an event that we had catered at so they knew about our passion for flavours, innovative presentation and attention to detail. Word spread like wild fire about my little company and we developed an exclusive client base who were a pleasure to work with.
In 2002 we relocated to the West Country where over the last few years we have developed a selective and loyal client base, stretching from Gloucestershire and Wiltshire to Devon. We are delighted to be on the recommended caterers list for the Guildhall in Bath, the Royal West of England Art Academy in Bristol, The Downs School Bristol and a new exciting venue in Bristol soon to be announced. Events in marquees have become our speciality. Our reputation for the best canapés, taste, size and incredible presentation is unchallenged in the South West. This year we have been proud to cater at the official opening of the Penny Brohn Cancer Help Centre in Pill in the presence of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
Back in London our favourite venue, The Lord Chancellors Residence in the House of Lords has now become The Lady Speakers Residence! We continue to be on the recommended caterers list there and have been involved with some extremely interesting events with charities, fund raising and awareness raising. To mark the end of an era for us we were honoured to be asked to cater at the Unveiling Ceremony of Lord Falconners portrait, remembering with wistfulness how we were present at the same ceremony for Lord Irvine ! We also remain on the recommended caterers list at The Royal Courts of Justice where we are now permitted to quote for large events as well as small.
Being in Somerset has been so exciting for us as far as our suppliers go. We share suppliers with the Roux Brothers and Heston Blumenthal. Our relationships with all our suppliers is strong and respectful. We are sure of only the finest ingredients being served to you at your events and every fresh product is sourced locally where possible.
2007 has seen the launch of my new business The Chocolate Tart. A selection of chocolate based workshops teaching the general public about all things ‘chocolaty’ ! Chocolate making, tasting and cooking workshops have delighted and inspired many of you already. We have watched countless times as someone unmoulds a set of chocolates and dances a jig of delight at the sight of 21 perfect, shiny chocolates on the surface in front of them! Wine and soft drinks included on all courses. Involuntary happy faces are compulsory whilst you make and beautifully package 80 – 100 of your own handmade creations.
